      Some gases smell because of the compounds within them. Most unpleasant gas smells are because they contain sulfur-containing compounds which smells like rotten eggs. We add a nasty smelling compound called mercaptan to natural gas you can buy at the store or for bunsen burners. This is for safety….if there is a gas leak, you will be able to smell it 👃
