I didn’t know I wanted to become a scientist until after my undergraduate degree. I actually thought about trying to become a philosopher! I realised after spending some time as a research assistant at a neuroscience lab after my degree – here I learnt how maths can be used to model aspects of the real-world, how it can help us understand features of the real-world, and how many questions there are still left to answer!

During school I initially wanted to be a medical doctor as I wanted to help people. I was during A-levels I found other topics that were more interesting to me and would be better suited towards a research scientist. It was during university that I knew this path was for me. I found the content interesting, the career prospects were good for the areas I liked and I liked performing experiments to help contribute to solving global problems and challenges, and to improve peoples lives.

I think I only realised that I wanted to become a scientist when I was an undergraduate University student in Spain. 🙂 I discovered what being a scientist meant during my laboratory sessions and I was fascinated!

During my undergraduate! I got to the end and realised that I wasn’t done with science research yet!
