Recently I worked on a project about the use of “Video Observed Therapy” for tuberculosis (TB). TB is a curable disease, but patients need to take two or more antibiotic drugs, every day, for six months. This can be really difficult to keep up – particularly because you might feel better, even if the disease isn’t completely cured. Video Observed Therapy is an method designed to help patients complete their treatment for TB. Each day, patients send a video clip of themselves taking the treatment, and nurses keep track to make sure that they remember to do it each day. Even though it is quite simple, it is a really effective and an exciting way that new technology can help to improve treatment!
