I have three more years until I get my PhD. That’s likely to be two and a half years more research, and six months of writing my thesis, which is a write-up of all of the research that I’ve done here.
My PhD I think is technically an evolutionary biology PhD because that’s the department that I’m in – evolution is very broad, so lots of things can fit into it!
The title of my PhD is “Real-time sequencing and its applications to public health”. Real-time sequencing is the collection of genetic data of viruses during the course of an epidemic (as opposed to afterwards). The main thing I’m trying to do is develop methods that will deal with the genetic data quickly so it’s useable to make decisions during an epidemic!
