Many of my professors at university inspired me to pursue a PhD and the field I am working in.

When I was doing my Masters, I was lucky enough to go to a talk by Hans Rosling – a really funny and smart Swedish statistician and doctor who promoted a “fact-based” world view. He sadly died last year but has lots of great talks online – look him up on YouTube!

My personal tutor at university inspired me to go into research because she thought that I would be good at it (even when I didn’t!) and really supported me.
My actual PhD on Ebola was inspired by my current supervisor! I read a couple of his papers at university, and then he came and gave a lecture where he showed his work. I thought it was such a cool, new way of approaching old problems (how do we stop a virus spreading?), so I applied to work with him!

It would be hard to name one person. Being at a university doing research, you meet loads of amazing and interesting people doing new and important research. The people studying infectious diseases always were trying to answer such interesting and big questions. So I’d probably say all the infectious disease researchers at the University of Warwick.
