Ebola spreads through contact of infected bodily fluids like blood. Infected people with lots of cuts/wounds would be considered high risk and so would have to have minimal contact with healthy individuals during their treatment. Improper clean-up of bodily fluids or contaminated items like medical equipment without the appropriate protective equipment also facilitates spread.
In West Africa, a lot of people caught Ebola from dead relatives and loved ones – when you die of Ebola your body stays infectious. This mixed with traditional funeral rituals, which include a lot of washing and touching of the body to say goodbye, means that funerals are very high risk!
If you’re not in an outbreak and you want to catch Ebola, the easiest way is to eat a wild fruit bat or chimpanzee/gorilla – or at least come into contact with their blood! This is usually how Ebola outbreaks start in humans.
