• Question: how long did it take you to qualify as a scientist?

      So it depends sort of on your definition of what a scientist is! Technically, I’m still studying although it’s more like a job than other degrees. In total, I would say three years of undergraduate degree, an optional one or two year masters (most people do them, but not all) and three or four years as a PhD! So 6-9 years! But I feel quite like I’m a real scientist now…so only four years really!

      I took 4 years to do my undergraduate degree, and 1 year to do a masters. So it took me 5 years to be in a position to do a PhD, which is the first position I have had where I have done my own research. It will take me 3 years to finish my PhD, so it will be a total of 8 years before I’m *really* qualified!
